Brief: An university competition team needed a graphic designer to run their Instagram Page and I helped out!

About: CheckIT is a machine learning in sustainability solution, a app that allows you to reduce food waste in your fridge!

The form is derived from a 'check box', with the letter 'C' replacing the box

I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to combines from Unsplash.com and an friendly-looking emoji-style illustration.

I had also learnt a tutorial on how to create gifs in photoshop to achieve this animated announcement with a logo change!

Workflow

The team already had a logo they made prior to me coming in, and I was tasked to redesign it! It was simple and green was a good colour, and it looked like the green tick Eco Label for fridges. I decided to keep the green and tick theme but create a graphic that could be the central focus in the logo!

For the logo, I explored simple shapes like circles, ticks, 0 and 1s (to represent binary code) and squares.

As it was used in a competition, I was striving for something simple and memorable!

I turned to a Graphic Designer I knew from church for advice on the logo, as it was my first time doing logo design for others outside of school! She gave me pointers on which logo style stood out more, and how to polish the design with rounding the edges, tilting and colour scheme!
